Summary
This week the movie I chose to watch is "Beastly". It is just like the modern version of "Beauty and The Beast". The main character of this movie is a good-looking, rich, but arrogant, selfish college student named Kyle Kingson. His father is a famous anchor of the city. His mother left the family when Kyle was little.
In the beginning of the story, Kyle was in the election of the students representative. He showed his arrogance and disrespect for his classmates who is "not so good-looking". One of his classmates Kendra was a witch. And Kyle pretend to invite Kendra to go to the party with him in order to humiliate and fool her. And then Kendra cursed Kyle that Kyle became an ugly freak. In addition, couldn't the spell be removed unless Kyle meet a girl who really loves him and says "I love you" to him in a year.
The witch
Kyle became a monster. His face turns terrible to see. He is not handsome anymore. When he met his father, his father disliked him and even sent him to a big house far away from the city. Kyle started a lonely and grounded life. His father sent the housekeeper and a blind tutor to live with Kyle.
Time passed, Kyle still lived with the housekeeper and a blind tutor in the big house lonely. He left his school life, his classmates, his friends, and his girlfriend. Everyday he was so upset about himself, about the things that happened to him, about the life. One day Kyle came out to the Halloween party of his oringinal school (everybody there has to dress up like a vampire, devil, monster, witch, superman, and so on, so Kyle won't be so frightened there). Kyle saw his girlfriend being together with his best friend from the school. They are talking about Kyle. Kyle found a heartbroken news that he is hated by his friends and classmates. That is to say, his girlfriend and his best friend don't like Kyle at all. They dislike him much because Kyle is a selfish, cruel, and arrogant person. They just "pretended" to like Kyle.
After this party Kyle was very sad about this news. He was confused about himself. In the past, when he was a good-looking guy, he thought the appearance is all the matter. He cared little about others and treated his classmates coldly. Everybody likes him, because he was handsome and rich. However, he doesn't look so good now, and all the friends he knew showed their dislike for him.
One day, when he walked on the road, he happened to see a man with drug addiction accidentally killed the usurer in self-defense. Coincidentally, the addict's daughter is one of Kyle's classmates named Lindy. Kyle promised not to expose what he saw to the police on condition that Lindy stays in Kyle's house for safety's sake until her father is safe from usurers.
Even with unwillingness, Lindy started the life with Kyle, the housekeeper, and the blind tutor in the big house. At first, Kyle dare not show his face to Lindy, so he weared the mask everytime he saw Lindy. And Kyle used another name "Hunter" in order not to let Lindy know that he is the "Kyle" who disappears from the school.
At first, Kyle tried to "buy" Lindy's heart. He bought all the things that are extremely expensive for Lindy, but everytime Lindy saw the gifts she just became angrier and angrier. Kyle didn't understand that Lindy was not the giry he could "buy". The housekeeper told Kyle that he should let her know that he really cares about her and sincerely be himself talking to her, instead of giving these glossy, superficial, and expensive things.
When Kyle tried to be himself in front of Lindy, and showed how he looked like before her, the relationship between them became closer. Day after day, Lindy lived together with "Hunter". Although "Hunter" looked like a freak, they gradually developed true affections for each other.
Time goes by, it's almost a year. If Kyle couldn't met someone who says "I love you." to him, his spell would last forever. He would never have the chance to turn back to the person who he originally is. On the other side, Lindy has to go to other country to study for a year. Just before the day that Lindy has to leave, Kyle went to the school to tell Lindy that he loves her. Finally, Lindy took out Kyle's hat and said she loves him. The spell removed. Kyle became the original good-looking person who he was. They love each other sincerely no matter how their appearance are.

Reflection
I think the story of this movie is just like the modern version of "Beauty and the Beast". The story is so beautiful and I think it is like a fairy tale. Now I will share some of my thoughts below.
First, when it is in the beginning of the movie, I thought that the main character is so disagreeable. I spoke in my head, "Oh my goodness! This man is so wicked. I don't like him!" because he is so mean and arrogant. I couldn't imagine that how terrible could a person say "You ugly peple best embrace the suck!" to his classmates. It is so mean! So at first I really don't like the main character.
Second, I think the witch's spell can actually be a blessing for Kyle. Although it is so bad that a handsome guy becomes a freak, he learns his lesson. If Kyle doesn't go through this experience, he may be so malicious, mean, and wicked forever. What the witch said are so meaningful. "As gruesomely unattractive outside just as you are inside." How ugly Kyle becomes reflects how ugly his heart is. He finally saw how wicked his heart is. There is another quotation from the witch, "Find someone who can see you better than you are." I think it is because Kyle still can't understand that "Having inner beauty is far more important than outside looking." He thought there would be no one likes him unless he regained his handsome appearance. He still thought that the appearance is the most important. That's why the witch request him to find someone who really loves him, really loves who he is, no matter how he looks. Thanks to the spell, Kyle learned his lesson, and he met a girl who really loves him for his true character and personality.
Third, in my opinion, I really learned a lot of special and interesting sayings from this movie. There are so many colloquial words and phrases in this movie. I learned that "sick-expensive" is a usage of describing something which is extremely high-priced and "eye candy" can describe girls who are beautiful.
To conclude, it is a good movie that not just because the main character is handsome but because there is something more meaningful behind the story. "How others look at us doesn't really matter. How we look at ourselves is more important." We should not judge people on how he or she looks. The inner beauty is far more important than the appearance. We all have to learn to see people's heart not their appearance.
