Summary
The movie I chose for this week is Ice Age IV. This movie is the last volume of Ice Age.
The setting of this movie is about the contimental drift. The land they lived in is moving! All of them should survive this and get back to their family.
In the beginning of the movie, the story began with Sid's family came back to find Sid. Sid's father, mother, brother, and grandmother came back to find Sid. Sid was so happy when he saw them. In the first volume of this series of story, Sid was abandoned by his family and then he met Manfred and Diego. His family met Sid, and told Sid that they also missed him. However, when Sid went to find his grandmother, his family left him again. They told Diego and Manfred that all they want to do is just to leave Grandmother with Sid to take care of her. Because they thought that Grandmother is a burden and trouble to them, they just wanted to leave her with Sid. Sid was abandoned again by his own family. He was upset.
Sid's family came back to him.
But they just left Granny for Sid to take care of her and then they abandoned him again.
Later, Manfred wanted to find his daughter, Peaches. In this volume, the little mammoth in the third volume has already grown up as a beautiful teenaged female mammoth. Peaches like to hang out with a mole whose name is Louis. He was a true friend to Peaches. However, Manfred wanted to forbid Peaches to hang out with her friends because he wanted to protect her. Manfred and Peaches had a big quarrel.
All of the sudden, there was a big earthquake. All of the lands they lived in are moving! The ground was cracking. Manfred, Diego, and Sid were separated from Ellie, Peaches, Eddie, and Crash (the two possums). Manfred, Diego, and Sid was on a piece of land floating on the sea. On the other hand, Ellie, Peaches, Eddie, and Crash had to move because the cliff behind them was moving toward the place where they were standing. All of the animals were frightened because in few hours the ground on which they were standing was going to disappear. Manfred told Ellie to move to the land bridge because he thought that it might be safe on the other side of the land. And Manfred promised them that he would find them no matter what happens.
Manfred, Diego, and Sid was on a small piece of land floating on the sea. They were trying to paddle back to their home, but the ocean currents were too strong. Worse, they were drawn into a big storm and hurricane and they met a big terrible sea monster. After they survived the storm and hurricane, they found there was another one staying on their small piece of land. It's Sid's Grandmother. They called her Granny. She was sleeping in the hole of the tree.
On the other side, Ellie and Peaches led all the other animals on the land to move to the bridge land. Peaches went back to save Louis from the landslides.
On the sea, Manfred, Diego, Sid, and Granny were wandering on the ocean because they got lost. Granny just kept calling her pet "Precious". Nobody see her pet and they thought Sid's grandmother was just little crazy. Then they met a big boat on the sea. In front of them there was a large boat. In the boat, there was a big ape and many different kinds of animals. They were priates. The big ape was their captain. They called him Captain Gutt. There was another female smilodon on the pirate boat, Shira. She is the first mate in the boat. The pirates plundered and abducted Manfred, Diego, Sid, and Granny in their boat.
They met a pirates boat.
After some hours, Manfred woke and found that they all were abducted by the pirates on their boat. However, they found the way to escape. They struggled to free themselves and fought with them. Finally they escaped from their pirate boat, and they also ruined their boat. They were on another small piece of icy land. The feamale smilodon, Shira, who is the first mate in the pirate was almost drown in the sea. She was struggling. Manfred saved her. Although she didn't want to be helped by them, she didn't have choice but to be with them.
On the other side, Ellie and Peaches led all the other animals to move to the land bridge. In the night, Ethan, one of another mammoths, came to Peaches and talked to her. Peaches had always liked him because she thought he was handsome. Ethan asked Peaches to go with them the next day. Peaches said yes.
Manfred, Diego, Sid, Granny, and Shira were on a very small piece of icy land floating on the sea. They were wandering on the ocean. Finally, they found a island. They landed on the small island. After they landed, Shira wanted to run away. However, Manfred said they couldn't lose her because she knew the way home. Diego ran after her and then they confined her to the hole of a tree. When Diego caught Shira, he saw the pirates were on the bay. They were making a new boat made of ice. And the pirates enslaved many little runts living in this island to make the boat for them. Manfred got an idea. They could cooperate with the runts in this island. The little runts help them steal the boat, and they help them save their friends from the pirates. And they found Sid had a special skill which can communicate with the little runts. They made a deal.
They discovered an island.
Sid could communicate with the runts.
In the night, when Diego sent water to Shira, they had a small chat. Diego told Shira that they were the same - leaving their own herd only want to find the family. Diego said he had the real family -Manfred, Sid, Ellie, Peaches, Eddie, and Crash. He told Shira that she could come with them but Shira refused. Shira said Captain Gutt was her family. However, Diego asked her that why there were no one sent out to find Shira.
In the morning, Manfred, Diego, Sid, Granny, and also the runts army got ready to implement their "boat-stealing" plan. They suddenly found that Shira just ran away. Shira came back to Captain Gutt and told him that Manfred was going to steal the boat. Instead of welcoming Shira, Captain Gutt only ordered her to kill Diego.
The little runts army set off. They distracted Captain Gutt and the other pirates' attention. Diego saved all the other runts which were enslaved by the pirates. Manfred, Sid, and Granny successfully stole the boat and had already been aboard. Diego was the last one. Before Diego caught the boat, Shira caught him. She told Diego that she didn't have the choices. She had to kill Diego or she would be killed by Captain Gutt. Diego said that a true friend wouldn't treat a friend like that. He asked Shira to come with them. Shira agreed with him. However, Shira didn't caught the boat. She decided to help them escape from Captain Gutt by sacrificing herself.
Captain Gutt was really angry about Shira. He threatened her again that if she doesn't kill Diego, she would be killed by him. Manfred, Diego, Sid, and Granny successfully escaped the island by stealing the pirate boat. However, on the boat Diego seems upset and anxious. Manfred and Sid said that he had fallen in love with Shira, but he didn't admit that.
On the other side, Peaches was with Ethan and some few mammoths the next day. She found that Ethan was not really a good guy. They laughed at her because she was always with strange animals - two possums, tiger, sloth, and a mole. She told them they were really her family. They took care of each other and relied on each other.
When Ellie and Peaches arrived the destination, they found the land bridge was gone. It was supposed to be there, but it was gone. The whole island was disappearing.
Manfred, Diego, Sid, and Granny also arrived the destination, where they were supposed to meet Ellie, Peaches, Crash, and Eddie. They also found that the land bridge disappeared. They were so sad that they couldn't find their family. All of the sudden, they saw something before them. Ellie and Peaches were abducted by Captain Gutt and his pirates on their new boat. All the other animals were on the small land.
Manfred and Diego began the fight with the pirates trying to save Ellie and Peaches. Peaches' friend Louis also came out to fight with them and save Peaches. Shira changed her side to help Diego and Manfred. She joined the fight to save Ellie and Peaches. However, the pirates were too many. Manfred, Diego, and Shira were cornered.
Meanwhile, Sid saved his grandmother. And Granny kept calling Precious - her pet. To Sid's surprise, Granny's pet was really exist! It was not the imagination of Granny. Granny's pet was a whale. Sid and Granny got inside the whle and rode on it. They saved Manfred, Diego, and Shira and defeated the other pirates. Peaches saved her mother bravely. However, all Captain Gutt wanted to do is to kill Manfred for revenge. Manfred finally defeated Captain Gutt.

Peaches was so touched that Louis risked his life saving her. She ultimately knew that who was her true friend. Shira asked if she could be with Manfred, Diego, Sid, Granny, Ellie, Peaches, Eddie and Crash and Diego agreed that. They led all the other animals to find the new land for them to live because their home was already gone. In the end, they found a new icy land for them to live. That's the end of this movie.

Reflection
This movie is the forth volume of Ice Age. There are some scenes and themes I want to talk about.
First, the theme of family was shown so obviously in this movie. For example, Peaches felt so regret saying something really bad to her dad after they were separated. And Manfred was determined to come back home even though he was threathened by Captain Gutt with a kniff pointing his head.
The second thing I want to talk about is Sid's positive attitude. He makes me so surprising, because I have always been dislike him from the first volume. I thought he was so stupid. He couldn't do anything well, even those are extremely important. He screwed up everything, so from the first volume I really don't like him. However, in this volume, I saw there were some characteristics very charming in him. He was a really positive person. No matter what happens he could always look things on the bright sight. After they had encountered "earthquake", storm, hurricane, and the terrible sea monsters, Sid said that the most important is they were is alive. And he cheered up everybody. Moreover, there was one sentence which he said that is really awesome! "Bad news was just good news in disguise." I really like this sentence and it can be my motto.
To sum up, I really appreciate Sid's positive attitude toward everything. That was the thing I have to learn.
